Art + Commerce Artist Agency

About

Art + Commerce is a premiere artists representation organization specializing in commercial photography. Clientele includes advertising agencies, graphic design companies, music companies, clothing designers, and fashion magazines among others.  During the early 1980’s Anne Kennedy, Jim Moffat and Leslie Sweeney saught to create an agency with the capability to support image makers within the realms of both art and commerce during a time when there was renewed interest by artists in working for the printed page. Since then, Art + Commerce has continued to offer long term guidance and support to their artists by helping build archives of published work and digital files. In doing so, they have had the ability to represent a diverse group of image makers—from emerging artists   to the most established—with several projects to each artist. Projects include editorial and advertising assignments as well as longer-term independent projects in film, photography and other media.  Art + Commerce is committed to extending the cultural currency of new and historically significant photographs. The Image Archive licenses photographs by many of the photographers currently represented for assignment, as well as artists’ estates such as Robert Mapplethorpe, Erwin Blumenfeld and Guy Bourdin. The agency has grown to represent several prominent photographers, stylists, creative directors, hair and makeup artists and an illustrator for assignment, special projects, and image licensing. Additionally, Art + Commerce Production offers casting, location and specialized services to those who seek it.  Art + Commerce is also dedicated to participating in photographic culture more broadly. In 2004 they hosted the Art + Commerce Festival of Emerging Photographers which gave credit to the diversity and creativity of non-represented photographers in the Tri-State area. The 2005 Festival traveled internationally and included the publication of PEEK, the first Art + Commerce book. In 2007 they guest-edited an issue of Capricious magazine.
