Emanuel Ungaro

Brand

Emanuel Ungaro is an Italian fashion line established by Emanuel Ungaro. At the age of 22, he moved to Paris and three years later, he began designing for the House of Balenciaga. Three years later, he went to work for Courrèges. With the assistance of Swiss artists Sonja Knapp and Elena Bruna Fassio, Emanuel Ungaro opened his own fashion house in Paris in 1965. Women flocked to his designs for body-skimming silhouettes, frothy cocktail frocks and bold, often-mismatched florals. In 1968, Ungaro created his first Prêt-à-Porter collection and opened a boutique in Paris. During the next 30 years, the Emanuel Ungaro House expanded to include boutiques and licensing agreements nationally. In 1973, he launched his first menswear collection, Ungaro Uomo, and his first perfume, Diva, 10 years later in 1983. In 1996, he formed a partnership with Salvatore Ferragamo and a year later Emanuel Ungaro, Salvatore Ferragamo and Bulgari created a new company: Emanuel Ungaro Parfums. The new perfumes which were released were Fleur de Diva in 1997, Desnuda in 2001 and Apparition in 2004. In 2005 the brand was sold to Asim Abdullah, head of Global Asset Capital Investment Bank. In December 2007, Esteban Cortazar was appointed as head designer. In 2008, Avon and Emanuel Ungaro collaborated to launch a new duo of fragrances, U by Ungaro for Her and U by Ungaro for Him. The scents were advertised by actress Reese Witherspoon who is a spokesperson for Avon.
