Salvatore Ferragamo is an Italian based fashion label. In 1914, Salvatore Ferragamo immigrated to America and became the "shoemaker to the stars" in Hollywood during the twenties. After designing shoes for Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, and even crafting Judy Garland's iconic red heels for The Wizard of Oz. In 1927, he returned to Italy and founded his own fashion house. After World War II, the company flourished and expanded the workforce to 700 craftsmen producing 350 pairs of hand-made shoes a day. After Salvatore's death in 1960, his widow Wanda took over the running of the business and expanded its operations to include eyewear, perfume, belts, scarves, bags, watches, and a ready to wear clothing line. Almost 3 decades later, Fall 2008 marked the debut of chief womenswear designer Cristina Orti. The company is currently owned and operated by the Ferragamo family.
