Brand
Lanvin is a label which was founded by Jeanne Lanvin in 1889. After a period of decline at the end of the twentieth century, Lanvin found new financial and critical success with the 2001 arrival of designer Alber Elbaz. Today, it’s the oldest French fashion house in operation. The company built a name with ultra-feminine clothing. While it includes menswear, it is best loved among editors and celebs for exquisitely made womenswear. Recently, Lanvin received national press in the United States in May 2009 when Michelle Obama was photographed wearing a pair of Lanvin suede sneakers. Duchesse satin, cocktail-length frocks (often with one shoulder), dressed-up cigarette pants, and volume experimentation have become signatures pieces within the line. Lanvin Boutiques are located worldwide while their largest wholesale customer in the United States is Barneys New York as the house continues to do well today.
