Jean Paul Gaultier

Brand

Jean Paul Gaultier is the founder of this fashion line which bears his name.  Gaultier's career began when he started sending sketches to famous couture stylists. It was Pierre Cardin who was impressed by his talent and hired him as an assistant in 1970.  In 1976, Gaultier set out on his own to create a womenswear line. The label immediately became known for its gender-bending, deconstructed aesthetic, and risqué collaborations. Many of Gaultier's following collections have been based on street wear and popular culture, whereas his Haute Couture collections are very formal- yet still hint at his playful aesthetic.
