J.Crew is a retail clothing line which began in 1983 when [[Arthus Cinader]] launched his mail order catalog. The company expanded into brick and mortar retailing in 1989 with its first store in New York City. Since the launch of their first catalogue, the business has expanded to that of an iconic American brand known worldwide for its sophisticated, fun clothing and accessories to live, work, and play in with classic basics like their blazers, Italian cashmere sweaters and famous broken-in chinos. The company's website, which was launched in 1996, features online-only products, as well as catalog and retail items. In January 2003, [[Millard Drexler]] joined the company as CEO and Chairman with visions of pushing J. Crew forward as a brand and lifestyle. In addition, the company produces a wedding and special occasions line, a high-end line known as the "[[J.Crew Collection]]" and a children's line called "[[Crewcuts]]".
