Dolce & Gabbana is an Italian luxury fashion house founded by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana in 1982. The line, which is based in Milan, specializes in luxury items and is influenced more by designers responding to long-term trends rather than seasonal changes. The pair showed their first women’s collection in Milan three years later to widespread praise and opened their first boutique in Tokyo in 1989. It was Madonna who famously wore one of the pair’s shirts in 1991 to the Cannes Film Festival which catapulted their label to the next level. They presented their first men’s collection that same year and have since expanded into fragrances, underwear, handbags, shoes, swimwear, eyewear, and jeans. The label is known for signatures such as corset dresses, leopard print, and sexy, sleek three-piece pantsuits. The sister label to Dolce & Gabbana is D&G which is a slightly more casual line that follows an urban inspiration and attempts to set trends rather than follow them. It is the younger, more flamboyant line of the brand. In addition to several flagship stores, Dolce & Gabbana also has kiosks in several department stores, including Bergdorf Goodman, Lord and Taylor, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue.
