Declared a “Spanish success story” by CNN, Zara is the trendy flagship chain store of Inditex Group, Europe’s fastest-growing apparel retailer. As its subsidiary, Zara accounts for 2/3 of its parent company’s sales. Inditex is owned by Spanish tycoon, Amancio Ortega, and is located in A Coruña, Galicia, Spain, where the first Zara store opened in 1975. Zara is a stylish, affordable women’s, men’s, and children’s retailer that claims to design, develop, and distribute a new product within the span of two weeks. This quick turn-around—compared to the industry average of six months— allows Zara to launch about 10,000 new designs each year, leading to higher sales and brand growth. Unlike other retailers in the fashion industry, Zara does not count on low-cost country outsourcing to produce their fast-fashion designs. Even more interesting is that the label does not release typical advertising campaigns, opting instead to invest money in more store launches globally. Currently, there are over 1,360 Zara stores in more than 65 countries worldwide.
