GQ

Magazine

GQ, also known as Gentlemen’s Quarterly, was founded in 1931 as Apparel Arts in the United States. It was a quarterly issue that provided information on men’s fashion to buyers and retailers, who used the publication to make suggestions to their customers. The original issues enclosed actual fabric samples within its pages and when consumers began to walk off with the magazines, publishers began to realize how important their product was to this market. Apparel Arts was then revamped in 1958 and renamed Gentlemen’s Quarterly and was a fashion supplement for Esquire readers. Through the 1970s, Gentlemen’s Quarterly continued to focus on men’s fashion, and in 1983 Esquire Inc. sold Gentlemen’s Quarterly to Conde Nast where it was revamped again and renamed, GQ.  The magazine now has a circulation of about 4 million readers and continues to offer great features that are one and the same with chic style and sophistication.
