The Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc, (CFDA) was founded in 1963, by a group of twenty fashion designers, including Bill Blass, and Arnold Scaasi. The CFDA is a not-for-profit trade association, which hosts its annual Fashion Awards to recognize the top creative talent in the industry. The organization also offers programs which support professional development and scholarships. Most notably, under the Executive Directorship of Fern Mallis, the CFDA was the originating organization of New York's Fashion Week CFDA's current membership consists of more than 350 of America’s foremost womenswear, menswear, jewelry, and accessory designers. Its Board of Directors boasts the likes of Oscar de la Renta, Nicole Miller, Ralph Lauren, and Michael Kors.
