Hilary Duff was born on September 28, 1987 in Houston, Texas. With the encouragement from her mother, they both, including sister Haylie Duff, left Texas and moved to California. Duff was enthusiastic about the idea of having a career in acting and was determined to pursue it. After several years of auditions and meetings, Hilary landed a role as Lizzie McGuire, on the television series, “Lizzie McGuire.” In 2004, the Disney Channel aired the first episode of “Lizzie McGuire” and the TV series became an instant hit. The show brought in 2.3 million viewers per episode and due to the high success of the show, Duff was an international star. Eventually, the Disney Channel signed Hilary for the “Lizzie McGuire Movie” in 2003. She had the opportunity to sing a couple of songs for the movie, as well; the soundtrack went platinum in 2003. This was the beginning of her music career. Duff released her first album in 2003 and reached #1 on the US and Canadian charts. By May 2005, she had sold over 3.7 million copies. In 2004, Duff released a second album which debuted at #2 in the US and #1 in Canada. The self titled album sold over 1.5 million copies. With the growing success of her entertainment career, Duff initially branched out to fashion. In March 2004, Duff launched her clothing line, Stuff by Hilary Duff, with clothes that distributed through Target, K-Mart, Zellers, and Edgars stores. Originally what started off as a clothing line, developed into producing furniture, fragrances, and jewelry. In February 2009, Duff and DKNY partnered up to launch a collaborative apparel line and in 2006, she released a perfumed, “With Love….Hilary Duff,” which was disturbed by the Elizabeth Arden company. To Date, Hilary Duff has been featured in countless teen fashion magazines and modeled for publications and editorials such as ELLE, Maxim, Allure, Shape, Glamour, Marie Claire and Jane. In 2008, FHM magazine voted Duff #18 in their “100 Sexiest List”.
