Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld first worked with Pierre Balmain from 1954 until 1957, and in 1958, he began working at the House of Patou. He also worked for Chloé from 1959 to 1978, and shortly after began designing furs and ready-to-wear clothing for the Fendi sisters.In 1975, he launched his own company, Parfums Lagerfeld. In 1983, with the help of Gilles du Four, he began designing the ready-to-wear collection for Chanel, eventually becoming the creative director. In 1992 he was back at the house of Chloé where his first line was a critical success showcasing his different personalities for fashion. In 1997, Lagerfeld stepped down from his position as chief designer at Chloé to focus more on his signature line. Lagerfeld is also an avid photographer. He often photographs his own campaigns and is commonly referred to as “Kaiser Karl.” His personal trademark includes a fan, a long ponytail for his shiny white locks and sunglasses. Lagerfeld is a brilliantly creative man that has the capability to design for various collections for different companies, each known to be exceptionally unique.In 2001, Lagerfeld dropped 92 pounds in 13 months in order to dress as the models that he designed for. As a result to the controversy of his weight loss he wrote a book, The Karl Lagerfeld Diet, explaining how others can lose weight with the help of a physician.
