Introduction Stéphane Marais was born in 1960 in Saint-Malo, France and grew up in Cameroon. Since childhood, Marais has been fascinated by beauty and glamour in fashion magazines, and began training as a makeup artist in 1981 after studying economics in France. Career Highlights Marais is one of the world’s most famous makeup artists having worked with the industry’s most renowned photographers and fashion designers. In 2001, he published the book, Beauty Flash, a compilation of polaroids he has taken over the past 15 years before photo shoots and during fashion show rehearsals. Personal Life For beauty inspiration Marais goes to the movies. His favorites are old black and white movies that feature smoky eyes and Cabaret. With each face, he creates a character. Marais also works with his own makeup recipes.
