Prabal Gurung is a fashion designer who was born in Singapore and raised in Kathmandu. He launched his career in New York as an intern for Donna Karan while taking classes at Parsons The New School for Design. Within his first year at Parson’s, he was awarded Best Designer at the annual Parsons/FIT design competition. It was then that he began to receive major media attention from outlets such as CBS News, Paper Magazine, and The New York Times. After completing Parsons, Gurung worked first for Cynthia Rowley, and later for Bill Blass. In February 2009 Gurung launched his very own fashion line. Gurung’s Fall 2009 Collection received resoundingly positive reviews and has been featured in Harper's Bazaar, Elle, and Women's Wear Daily. He's also become quite a hit with celebrities who love his unique designs; Rachel Weisz and Zoe Saldana count him among their favorites. Most recently, Gurung was nominated for prestigious 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund.
