Jason Schmidt

Photographer

Jason Schmidt is an American photographer based in New York.  He has shot many editorials for publications such as InStyle, L’Officiel, and L’uomo Vogue.  Furthermore, he has worked with some of the top names in fashion like Carolina Herrera, Jessica Stam, and Brian Molloy.  Besides fashion, Schmidt has shot advertisements for Microsoft, Absolut, and IBM.  Before becoming a professional photographer, Schmidt studied art history at Columbia University and graduated in 1991. Additionally, he followed around contemporary artists for 6 years and photographed them creating art.  This project resulted in a book, Artists.  Inside the book are 131 photographs with commentary from each subject.  Some of the artists Schmidt captures include Ed Ruscha, Richard Serra and fellow photographer Andreas Gursky.  Most of the pictures from Artists were also published in V from 1997 to 2006.
