Stefano Gabbana, born on November 14, 1962 in Venice, Italy, studied graphic design. In 1980, Gabbana met Domenico Dolce where they worked as assistants together at an atelier in Milan. The pair began working as a team in 1982 as free-lance designers.In 1986, Dolce and Gabbana’s first collection received international acclaim and three years later they opened their first boutique in Japan. In 1990, they launched their premiere men’s collection and opened their first women’s boutique in Milan. Their line improved in 1992 with scarves, beachwear, perfume, ties and accessories. In 1993, Dolce and Gabbana received the Wollmark Award as well as Best Fragrance of the Year. By the end of 1990s, Dolce and Gabbana’s annual sales were reported around $500 million. Dolce & Gabbana is comprised of two central lines: Dolce&Gabbana and D&G. Dolce&Gabbana specializes in exclusive luxury items that are considered timeless such as corrective eyewear, sunglasses, purses, ready-to-wear and clothing. D&G is a more casual line with urban inspiration geared towards younger buyers. D&G includes timepieces such as limited edition mobile phones. Dolce & Gabbana has several boutiques in top fashion cities such as New York, Las Vegas, Beverly Hills and Bal Harbour, Florida and is sold in several upscale stores such as Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. The line is featured in endless amounts of fashion publications and worn by A-list celebrities constantly.
