Karl Anderson Jr., professionally known as Michael Kors, was born August 9, 1959 in Long Island, New York.  At 19, Kors began designing clothes during his studies at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.  In 1981, he launched the Michael Kors womenswear line at Bloomingdale’s, Bergdorf Goodman, and Saks Fifth Avenue. In 1999, Kors received the most prestigious award in fashion, the CFDA Award for Womenswear Designer of the Year.  One year later, Kors’ flagship store opened in New York City, followed by an additional store in Tokyo.  In 2002, Kors launched his award-winning menswear line. He has since expanded his brand to also include a ready to wear line, Michael by Michael Kors, and a mid-tier line, Kors by Michael Kors.
