Alexander McQueen's foray into fashion began while apprenticing on Saville Row. While there, he perfected six methods of pattern cutting from the 16th Century which would later become a McQueen signature. By 1996, McQueen was named Chief Designer at Givenchy where he maintained the position until 2001.  In 2000, 51% of Alexander McQueen was obtained by the Gucci Group and McQueen became its Creative Director. McQueen’s collections are sold in over 39 countries in 194 wholesale accounts including specialty stores and upscale department stores. In 2005, McQueen partnered with Puma for an unpredictable and remarkable footwear collection.  In 2006, McQ was born, a denim-based women’s and men’s ready-to-wear line distributed worldwide by SINV Spa.  Over the years, McQueen received numerous recognitions and achievements including British Designer of the Year in 1996, 1997, 2001 and 2003, as well as International Designer of the Year by The Council of Fashion Designer’s of America (CFDA) in 2003.  McQueen also earned Most Excellent Commander of The British Empire from her Majesty the Queen in 2003.  In 2007, he received the Fashion Directors Award for McQ and Menswear Designer of the Year by GQ. When McQueen passed away in February 2010, the world mourned the loss. Designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana characterized McQueen as, "a designer whom we have always admired for his creative genius and unmatched inspiration. He leaves the fashion world with an unfillable void.'
