From the young age of 15, Jacobs worked as a stock boy in Charivari, a trendy boutique in New York, where he met and was inspired by Perry Ellis. In 1981, Jacobs graduated from The High School of Art and Design in New York City. He also attended Parsons: The New School for Design and Art in New York City. In 1984, while attending Parsons he won the Perry Ellis Gold Thimble Award, Chester Weinberg Gold Thimble Award and Design Student of the Year.In 1987, Jacobs was the youngest designer to ever receive the industry’s highest recognition, The Council of Fashion Designers (CFDA) Perry Ellis Award for new fashion talent followed by the CFDA Women’s Designer of the Year in 1992. Two years later, Jacobs produced his first full line of menswear. In 1997, Jacobs became the creative director for luxury French fashion house, Louis Vuitton and created the company’s first ready-to-wear collection. Jacobs has the innate ability to dress anyone for almost any occasion. Including his position at Louis Vuitton, he is head designer for Marc Jacobs and his diffusion line, Marc by Marc Jacobs. In May 2009, Jacobs proudly hosted the “Model and the Muse” themed gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute in New York featuring supermodel, Kate Moss. A few of Jacobs’ favorite models include Sofia Coppola, Winona Ryder, Dakota Fanning and Victoria Beckham who have all been photographed by Juergen Teller for Marc Jacobs campaigns.
