Designer Anna Sui always knew she would become a designer, at the age of 4 she had already begun to make clothes for her dolls and vowed to never wear the same outfit twice in the same year. After high school Anna attended Parsons The New School for Design in New York, where she became friends with Steven Meisel. Anna would style Meisel’s shoots as well as design for several sportswear companies all while working on her own line. In 1980, Anna Sui presented six original pieces at a boutique show and immediately received a great response from retailers such as Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s. Macy’s featured her designs in a New York Times advertisement and her line quickly grew in popularity. Throughout the 80’s Sui’s continued to build her line working out of her apartment, and in 1991 she premiered her first runway show followed by the opening of her flagship store in Soho. Today, Sui’s brand is recognized worldwide for its fashion, bridal wear, fragrance, and accessory lines sold in retail stores and boutiques in over 50 countries. Most recently, she designed an affordable line for Target, which sold out in record time. Sui designs for an impressive celebrity clientele list including Sofia Coppola, Mischa Barton, Nicole Richie and Liv Tyler.
