Kate Moss was born on January 16, 1974, in London, England. Kate Moss’ modeling career began at the early age of 14 when Sarah Douses, founder of Storm Model Management, discovered her at JFK airport in NYC. Moss’ first professional modeling work, at age 15, was for British magazine, The Face, in a photo shoot titled “The Third Summer of Love”. The black and white photos were shot by Corrine Day and styled by Melanie Ward.Moss quickly became known for having the antithesis of a typical model’s body. During the late 1980’s, models such as Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell had become the standard: tall and slender. Moss was a stark contrast to this standard at 5’7.Moss rocketed to fame in 1993. She was featured on billboards everywhere for the infamous Calvin Klein campaign wearing little more than underwear. Her depiction in the androgynous ads showed her gaunt face and slight figure with little makeup and clothing. The campaign successfully created a buzz around the 19-year-old Moss, and even drew attention from the President of the United States, Bill Clinton.Moss has been featured in campaigns for Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein, Roberto Cavalli, Missoni, Chanel, Longchamp, David Yurman, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Burberry, Stella McCartney, Rimmel and Bvlgari. Not only has she been a prevalent face utilized by many houses of fashion, she has also graced the covers of almost every prominent fashion magazine including 24 covers for Vogue British and 17 for W.Moss has one daughter, Lila Grace Moss, with Dazed and Confused editor Jefferson Hack. After the relationship with Hack ended, Moss became involved with Pete Doherty, singer for the rock band Babyshambles.The relationship with Doherty fizzled and Moss has since been linked to Jamie Hince, guitarist for The Kills. In 2008 rumors circulated that the two were engaged, though they currently remain unwed.In the past five years Moss has made a professional turnaround, proving that everyone loves a good comeback story. In July 2007 with estimated yearly earnings of nine million dollars, Forbes magazine named her number two of the 15 highest paid supermodels.In 2008, Moss was the face for campaigns with Donna Karan, Stella McCartney, Roberto Cavalli and Yves Saint Laurent. Most recently, Moss has been working with the UK based retail chain TopShop. In addition to assisting in the design of the fashion line, Moss is also modeling them. She is also the face for TopShop USA, which opened its’ doors in New York on April 2nd, 2009.
