Bio
Valentino Garavani is a fashion designer and founder of the fashion house Valentino. Garavani’s first apprentice job was with couturier Jean Desses, where he helped style icon Jacqueline de Ribes sketch her ideas. After five years, he left Desses. In 1950 Garavani returned home to Italy where he opened a fashion house in 1959. As a designer, he quickly became known for his signature red colored dresses. This shade of red became known as the “Valentino Red” or “Rosso Valentino”. A few years later, in 1968, Garavani reached one of his utmost accomplishments in creating an all-white collection including the famous “V” logo he designed. One year later, he received the Neiman Marcus Award for his work in the industry.Throughout the years, Valentino has become synonymous with opulence, extravagance, and drama. In 2007, Garavani announced his retirement while former Gucci designer Alessandra Facchinetti took over as head designer until Spring of 2009. At that time, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, who had previously designed accessories for the label, were named creative directors. The label continues to see success in the fashion world.
